Teacher earns less than a sales promotion girl

The money would only be enough for fulfill daily things in life such as to buy rice. That fund should have been directly allocated to all schools in Indonesia, instead of being targeted to students. “Teachers and schools need the fund,” said Aviliani.

According to Aviliani, teachers with very minimum income would not be focus in doing their job. If there was no fund, the whole infrastructure for school would also not be suitable. This is one of the reasons why people is starting to loose their interest to send their children to public school.
Aviliani stated that if this condition is going to continue, then the human index within this nation will keep being low. At the moment Indonesian human index is already left out by its neighbor countries such as Malaysia.
She added that the fuel compensation fund must focus on one program per year. At this year the government should have been focusing on the nine year education program.

Previously, Nunung Yuliani expressed her concern regarding the life of many teachers – especially contract term teaches – who have never been legalized as government official – who have difficulties in their financial life.

Nunung stated that she only receives Rp. 950,000 from teaching two elementary schools every month. The income is definitely not enough for her, her husband, and their child. Currently, she’s also continuing her undergraduate program.

An income from being a sales promotion girl is still better than being a teacher,” said Nunung who used to work as a sales promotion girl for two years. She finally chosed to be a teacher since she believes that teaching is her call for life.

Dessy Tri Utami told her view in this episode regarding how the educational support from the Indonesia government help her as a student who comes from an unfortunate family. Dessy’s father Dedi Tri Junadi, stated that Dessy receives financial support from her school, SMP negeri 1 Cikini at Central Jakarta, and he has never been charged for anything from the school management.

It should be noted that Dessy needed text books to be used for school and it sure need extra cost. However Dedi hoped that the extra cost would not be bigger at the future.

According to Dessy, she was selected after going through a test since she came from a private elementary school.
