Germany Provides Scholarships to Tsunami Victims
December 2, 2005 - Posted in Online Education, Scholarship(ANTARA News) - Germany has provided scholarships to victims of tsunami studying at the Bogor-based Institute of Agriculture (IPB), said a spokesperson of IPB Vet. Agus Lelana here Thursday.
The scholarships were handed over to the students from Aceh and North Sumatra who are studying at IPB by Dr. Dorothea Ruland, deputy head of the German Development Cooperation Ministry s academic exchange service (DAAD) and Adre Scholz, head of the Press and Culture Department of the German embassy in Indonesia, at the IPB Campus in Bogor on Wednesday.
The 65 candidates of doctorate degree holders who just got the German scholarships are part of the total 703 students receiving financial assistance from DAAD.
Lelana said that there are now 865 students from Aceh and North Sumatra studying throughout Indonesia who have received financial aid for one academic year from various organizations, including DAAD.
Aceh and North Sumatra were tragically hit by tsunami in December 2004 which killed at least 150,000 people and rendered more than 500,000 people homeless.(*)
