Friendship Dairies Scholarships available for graduating seniors

Friendship Dairies - known for its cottage cheese and sour cream - will award a total of $20,000 in scholarship money to ten eligible high school seniors across Massachusetts who have been accepted to an accredited college or university for the fall 2006 semester. Scholarships range from $1,500 to $5,000. Former New England Patriot Ted Johnson joins the Friendship panel of judges to select the winners.
The first Project Friendship Scholarship serves as a thank you to Massachusetts residents for their support of Friendship Dairies. In the past, Friendship has awarded scholarships to high school students from Connecticut and Florida.
Eligibility Requirements:
# Applicants must be graduating high school seniors residing in Massachusetts.

# Selection criteria is based on academic achievement (3.0 or higher grade point average) and a demonstration of leadership in school and/or community volunteer activities that promote a safe and friendly environment.
In addition to submitting a completed Project Friendship Scholarship Application, students must also submit the following at the same time:

# A four-year high school transcript;

# Letters of reference: one from a teacher familiar with the student’s academic ability and one from a community leader not from school who is familiar with the student’s volunteer activities;

# A detailed list of school and community volunteer work; and

# An essay of 1,000 words or less explaining how they have made their high school and/or community a friendlier place and/or how they plan to use their education to make the world a friendlier place.
Applications received after the Dec. 16 deadline will not be considered.
