Minnesota Agricultural Education Leadership Council (MAELC) Scholarships

The Minnesota Agricultural Education Leadership Council (MAELC) is once again awarding $25,000 in scholarships to students wishing to pursue a college degree and career in Agricultural Education.

With a shortage of highly trained high school Agricultural Education teachers and agri-business personnel, there is a need in Minnesota and nationally for professionals trained in Agricultural Education. MAELC’s scholarship program is intended to encourage the best and the brightest students to pursue a career in Agricultural Education.

Scholarships will be awarded to students who will be entering their first year of college in the fall of 2006. Students may study Agricultural Education at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities or at the University of Minnesota - Crookston.

Scholarships will also be awarded to Agricultural Education students participating in the 2+2 partnership programs with the following schools; Ridgewater College - Willmar; South Central Technical College - Mankato; Central Lakes College - Brainerd; and Minnesota West College - Worthington.

Applications can be obtained on the MAELC website at www.maelc.state.mn.us or by calling (612) 624-6256. The deadline for applications is March 1, 2006.

Established in 1997 by the Minnesota Legislature, MAELC is comprised of sixteen educators, legislators, government officials, and agribusiness and community organization representatives. The Council represents all of the major institutions and groups in Minnesota with an interest inagricultural education and serves as a focal point for initiatives to improve agricultural education in the state.
