Five Alabama high school students will receive $2,500 scholarships and free notebook computers this coming April as part of Alabama Public Television’s 2006 Alabama Young Heroes Award. Help us identify who these outstanding students are.
The 2006 Alabama Young Heroes Awards will honor students in grades 9-12 who have excelled in academics, served their community, or who have overcome hardships in their life. With the generous help of Books-A-Million and the Rotary Club of Birmingham, Alabama Public Television will recognize each of the five winners at a special awards luncheon on Wednesday, April 26 at the Harbert Center in Birmingham. Each winner will receive a generous scholarship provided by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama and a computer courtesy of the Thompson Family Foundation.
If you know any students in grades 9-12 who have excelled in academics, given of themselves through public service, overcome adversity, or inspired others through their deeds and strength of character, please consider nominating them as a Young Hero.
To receive a form, call Alabama Public Television at 800-239-5233, ext. 152, or download the form online at www.aptv.org.
Deadline to receive nominations is Jan. 31.

My daughter Lexie Dorsett is a candidate who was selected from her school…I believe along with 3 others who were up for this scholarship. She has not heard anything. Can you please tell us when we should hear as to whether or not she received a scholarhship? Please advise. Thanks!
