American Friends of the University of Edinburgh Postgraduate Scholarships
January 16, 2006 - Posted in ScholarshipThe American Friends of the University of Edinburgh (AFUE) Scholarships are available for postgraduate study in any subject offered by the University. The two scholarships, which are funded by the University of Edinburgh USA Development Trust Inc, have a value of $5,000 (1 award) and $2,000 (1 award), and will be tenable for one academic year. Successful applicants may not apply again for this scholarship in subsequent years.
Eligibility
The scholarships will be awarded to students in receipt of a United States passport who are currently pursuing or applying to pursue a full-time postgraduate programme of study at the University of Edinburgh.
Prospective students should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so.
Criteria
The scholarship will be awarded broadly on the basis of academic merit with candidates requiring either the equivalent of a GPA of 3.6 or better from a recognised US university or the overseas equivalent of a UK First Class Honours degree.
In addition to the above academic qualifications, the selection panel will also take into account the financial circumstances of applicants to ensure that as far as possible a student’s financial situation does not impede a university education at the University of Edinburgh.
Application Procedure
All applicants must complete a scholarship application form which can be downloaded in Rich Text Format (RTF) or PDF (which requires Adobe Acrobat Reader) and send it to the Scholarships and Student Finance Office, along with:
* Two academic references in sealed envelopes (If you are already an enrolled student at the University of Edinburgh then at least one of these references should come from an academic member of staff from the University of Edinburgh)
* Research outline which should not be any longer than one side of A4 paper
* A transcript of your post-secondary education to date
* The name and address of a local newspaper or other media outlet in the United States to which we can send a notice of award if you are awarded an AFUE Scholarship.
