DUBAI — The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has invited applications for the award of scholarships at B.Sc./B.Sc. (Hons) and M.Sc. levels for public sector universities of Pakistan, under the Talent Farming Scheme for the session 2005-06.

Students studying in B.Sc/B.Sc (Hons) Part-I must have obtained 60 per cent marks (in Science subjects) at F.Sc. level to be eligible for the scholarships, whereas M.Sc. students (Part-I) must have secured 60 per cent aggregate (in science subjects) at B.Sc. level. Eligibility does not guarantee scholarships; such scholarships will be awarded to students with the highest merit.

The HEC will pay a monthly stipend of Rs1000 for B.Sc./ B.Sc. (Hons) and Rs1,500 for M.Sc. students and ‘Book Allowance’ of Rs1,000 for B.Sc/B.Sc (Hons) and Rs1,500 (per year) for M.Sc. students.

The candidates have been asked to take an aptitude test to be conducted by HEC simultaneously in Islamabad, Lahore, Multan, Quetta, Peshawar, Hyderabad, Faisalabad and Karachi. The test centres could also be established at Attock, Mardan, Mansehra and Gilgit subject to availability of suitable number of candidates and a suitable place to conduct the test. Test score of each candidate would count 40 per cent weightage with 60 per cent weightage of previous academic record to qualify for the scholarship.

The HEC has advised the candidates to download the prescribed application forms from the HEC web site www.hec.gov.pk or to obtain them from the HEC headquarters or HEC regional centers in Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar.

The last date for receipt of application forms is February 15, 2006.
