Land Bank South Scholarships
January 29th, 2006 - Posted in ScholarshipLand Bank South will award $10,500 in scholarships this year to college and university students in the association’s 50-county territory.
Eleven $500 scholarships will be distributed through the Mississippi Community College Foundation - where a Land Bank South Annual Scholarship was established in 2005.
The scholarships will be awarded to business administration or agriculture majors at 11 community colleges, including East Central Community College, East Mississippi Community College and Meridian Community College.
Applicants will be reviewed by their college or university, which in turn will recommend a recipient to the Mississippi Community College Foundation’s board of directors for final approval.
An additional five scholarships of $1,000 each will be given to university students pursuing degrees in business or agriculture at Mississippi State University, the University of Southern Mississippi, Jackson State University or Alcorn State University.
Applicants will be reviewed by their schools’ selection committees.
Scholarships will be awarded on a year-to-year basis. Students who receive scholarships are eligible for consideration in another year, but they must still comply with the selection criteria.
Jessie Purvis, chief executive officer of Land Bank South, said scholarship applicants must be pursuing degrees in business administration or agriculture, have demonstrated academic achievement, be in good standing at their schools and show good moral character and leadership ability.
Interested applicants should contact a Land Band South office or the financial aid office of their college or university. Land Bank South is a part of the nationwide Farm Credit System and provides rural real estate, country home and agribusiness financing.
