Iowa Mediacom Communications is offering 50-thousand dollars in scholarships for high school seniors planning to continue their education.
The scholarships, worth a thousand dollars each, are available to students who live in the five states where Mediacom does business: Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Since the program began in 2002, 126 Iowa students have received the scholarships. Students must write a brief essay on leadership to accompany their school transcript and two letters of recommendation.

Mediacom officials say applications have been mailed to area high schools. The deadline for high school seniors to submit completed applications is March 15th.
