Help with student aid applications
February 8, 2006 - Posted in Online EducationHigh school seniors and their families can get free help in completing and electronically submitting their Free Application for Federal Student Aid forms from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 18 at Catawba Valley Community College.
FAFSA Day is a service of College Foundation of North Carolina and the N.C. Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. CVCC is one of 42 sites in the state participating in this statewide event.
FAFSA is the universal entry portal to all federal and state grants, scholarships, loans and work study funds to attend college. Many private scholarships and grants also require a completed FAFSA. CVCC financial aid and student services staff also will be available to answer questions.
Registration is required to participate. Visit www.CFNC.org and click on “Register For CFNC Events” to select the Hickory workshop location.
Those who register online will receive electronic reminders to bring federal tax forms, complete FAFSA pre-application worksheets and other documents that will expedite the FAFSA filing process on Feb. 18. If parents and students plan to complete their FAFSA entirely at the workshop, they should obtain a Personal Identification Number (PIN) prior to Feb. 18. To obtain a PIN, go to www.pin.ed.gov.
Students and parents without PINs can still participate in FAFSA Day, but the process will be faster for those with a PIN. For more information, call the CVCC financial aid office at (828) 327-7000.
