Saint John Hospital Guild scholarships
February 10, 2006 - Posted in ScholarshipThe Saint John Hospital Guild is offering five scholarships to graduating high school seniors or students who have already graduated and are interested in pursuing a nursing or other health-related educational program.
“The guild is proud to be able to assist Leavenworth area students who are interested in health care with their educational costs,” said Charlotte Atwater, guild scholarship committee chair. Many guild scholarship recipients return to Saint John as clinical staff to give back their knowledge to the community, she said.
The Edward F. and Marian Reilly Health Profession Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 is awarded to a student who is interested in pursuing a career in a health profession. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of the applicant’s motivation for a health career, financial need and willingness on the part of the student to return to Saint John upon graduation to work for one year. Students must live or attend school in Leavenworth County. The scholarship is financed by an endowment fund started in 1967 by the Edward F. and Marian Sullivan Reilly family.
The Margaret Strutz Memorial Nursing Scholarship in the amount of $500 is awarded to a person entering a nursing career and is made possible through guild fund. The Elizabeth Cavaner Memorial Nursing Scholarship in the amount of $300 is awarded to a former Saint John Hospital candy striper who is pursing a nursing or other health-related career. The scholarship is funded through an endowment from C. G. Cavaner in memory of his wife, Elizabeth.
The Catherine Ray Health Care Scholarship in the amount of $500 is awarded to a person pursuing a health career. This scholarship is made possible through a donation from guild member Catherine Ray.
The Eileen Welch Memorial Nursing Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 is awarded to a non-traditional age student who is currently enrolled in either an associate or bachelor’s degree nursing program. The scholarship is awarded from memorial gift funds designated to the Providence/Saint John Foundation by the Welch family in memory of Eileen Welch. Welch was a former nurse at Saint John and an active guild member for many years. She served two terms as guild president.
