Scholarships offered to young actors

Warren’s 2nd Story Theatre is offering five scholarships to high school students residing in the East Bay Area.

Sponsored by a grant from MetLife Foundation’s Volunteer Ventures Program, the scholarships are available to students from East Providence, Barrington, Warren and Bristol who are in grades 9 to 12. Selected students will participate in an acting class offered at the Actors’ Workshop, the studio-based training program of 2nd Story Theatre, during the spring or fall class session of 2006. The students’ tuition will be funded by the MetLife Foundation.

Scholarship recipients will be selected following an audition process. For the audition, applicants should prepare a memorized monologue. Auditions are scheduled for Monday, Feb. 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at 2nd Story Theatre. Students are requested to call ahead to set up a time and educators are welcome to nominate up to three students for this unique opportunity.

To schedule a time or to learn more, call Joanne Fayan at 247-4200 or send an e-mail to info@2ndStoryTheatre.com.

2nd Story Theatre is located at 28 Market St. in Warren. It was founded in Newport in 1978 by Pat Hegnauer and Ed Shea, who is now the theater’s artistic director.
