Ball State University Scolarships

Ball State University has announced funding for several new scholarships. They include:

Mary Margaret Manifold Scholarship Fund: The $320,000 fund will assist students majoring in art education or students majoring in humanities education who intend to become teachers.
The award honors Manifold, a veteran teacher who taught at New Haven High School outside of Ft. Wayne for 42 years before retiring in 1976. A Ball State graduate, Manifold died last year.

Gilkison Music Education Scholarship Fund: Frank Gilkison and his wife have create a fund that will assist Ball State music education students.

Applicants should be incoming freshmen pursuing a degree in music education with at least a “B” average in high school and active in school and community activities. If funds allow, the scholarship may be renewed for three additional years if recipient maintains 3.0 GPA.

Mrs. Gilkison taught music at Wapahani High School after receiving graduate and undergraduate degrees from Ball State.

She and her husband are active supporters of the Ball State art and athletic departments and are members of the university’s Quadrangle Society.

Hamilton Scholarship: The estate of Herbert H. Hamilton has funded a scholarship to assist Ball State political science master’s students to continue their education in law school.

The funds are to be used for tuition, fees and books or related educational supplies.

Hamilton earned a master’s degree from Ball State’s Teachers College and earned a master’s degree in law and doctoral degree in government from Indiana University.

He retired in 1976 from Ball State after teaching political science for 40 years.
