CMU SCHOLARSHIPS REWARD AND SUPPORT CMU STUDENTS

“As the largest of six academic colleges at CMU, the College of Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences has more than 40 scholarships ranging from $50 to $3,000,” said Pamela Gates, associate dean of the college. “These scholarships are over and above what may be available from other sources for students.”
The awards can range from $50 for the best piece of written work, $500 for study abroad, $1,000 for military science and $3,000 to students in specific areas who are in financial need. For information about deadlines, call the CHSBS office, (989) 774-3341, or the departments directly.
Scholarships with March deadlines are:
• CHSBS Alumni Fund Award, $1,000, for CHSBS majors.
• John E. Warriner Scholarship, $3,000, based on financial need.
• Marion Croft Althoff Memorial Scholarship, based on financial need.
• J. Carroll Arnett Creative Writing Scholarship, $1,000 for students with creative writing portfolios.
• E. C. Beck Scholarship, for a student who intends to teach English.
• The Rev. Lloyd C. and Ica L. Bronson Memorial Award, $1,000, for English majors or minors.
• Jeanette R. House Memorial Scholarship, $1,500, for English literature majors.
• Francis and Mary Lois Molson English Education Scholarship, $1,000, for English majors or minors pursuing secondary education.
• G. William Quine Scholarship, $500, for liberal arts students.
• Kenneth W. and Margaret Cuff Saunders Scholarship, $800, for English, journalism or physics majors.
• Jacques E. and Helen M. Baer Perry Scholarship, $100 to $500, for French, German or Spanish majors.
• Edana de Guary Scholarship for French Study Abroad, $100 to $500, for French majors.
• Elizabeth Etnire Scholarship for Spanish Study Abroad, $100 to $500, for Spanish education students.
• Nancy and Ted Kortes Spanish Award, $100 to $500, for Spanish majors or minors to study in Spain or Latin America.
Each CMU department and college also offers a variety of endowed scholarships and awards.
