In an on-going effort to recognize and assist future advertising, public relations and communications professionals throughout southeast Georgia and the low country of South Carolina, The Savannah Advertising Federation annually sponsors the Vin Whitson and the Marv Vawter Scholarships.
The Savannah Advertising Federation is proud to present local Graphic Design student Andrew Mullican with its 2006 Vin Whitson Scholarship. The purpose of this grant is to assist an outstanding college junior or senior pursuing a career in advertising with an eye toward a career in graphic design. The award may be used for tuition and fees, textbooks, or other academic expenses. Andrew Mullican was born in Anniston, Alabama, grew up in both LaGrange, Georgia, and Dillon, South Carolina. While at LaGrange High School, Mullican was named to The National Arts Honor Society. Upon graduation, Mullican enrolled in The Art Institute of Atlanta. After 18 months at the Art Institute, he transferred to The Savannah College of Art and Design in 2001 to study Graphic Design. He is currently finishing his degree as a senior at SCAD, continues to work on numerous freelance jobs, is interested in taking on new projects and is always ready to employ his creativity in a beneficial way for others. Andy is also looking forward to continuing one of his life-long passions, illustration.
The Marv Vawter scholarship for 2006 has been awarded to Alex Cortani. This grant has been funded to assist an exceptional college junior or senior in pursuing a career in advertising with a focus toward agency work. The award may be used for tuition and fees, textbooks, or other academic expenses. Alex Cortani was born in the small town of Campbell, California. He lived there for three years before moving to Virginia Beach, Virginia, attending public school there until seventh grade. As he entered the eighth grade, Cortani transferred to Cape Henry Collegiate School, graduating in 2000. Following graduation, he attended Virginia Commonwealth University, only to leave VCU in search of a BFA in Advertising Design. For two and a half years, Cortani worked in his father’s advertising agency in Virginia Beach until September 2004, when he transferred to Savannah College of Art and Design to continue his education. Alex is currently in his junior year.
Applicants must be attending an accredited institution offering degree programs in marketing, public relations, advertising, broadcasting, journalism, video and graphic arts, or areas of study directly related to the communications industry.
