Richland 1 received five awards Jan. 20 from the state Department of Education for its outstanding adult education programs:

PALMETTO GO-GETTERS

Given to Richland 1 and Richland 2 for combined efforts that awarded students 371 high school credentials in 2004-05.

PALMETTO PERFORMERS

Given to Richland 1 and Richland 2 for their combined efforts in 2004-05 to effectively reach the portion of the county’s population who don’t have a high school education.

PALMETTO TREND-SETTERS

Given to Richland 1 for exceeding the state GED passage rate in 2004-05.

PALMETTO PIONEERS

Given to Richland 1 for going the extra mile in seeking extra funding opportunities.

CORRECTIONAL EDUCATION-GED INITIATIVE

Given to Richland 1 because it awarded at least 30 GED credentials to incarcerated students. Richland 1 awarded 63 credentials in 2004-05.
