Brunei: Taiwan Scholarships for Brunei students
February 20, 2006 - Posted in Education News, Scholarship, Study AbroadThe Taipei Economic & Cultural Representative Office in Brunei Darussalam has announced in a press release the offer of Taiwan Scholarships to Brunei students to further study at colleges or universities in Taiwan.
The Taiwan scholarship programme is aimed at encouraging foreign students including from Brunei, with good records and high potential, to study in Taiwan so as to improve their understanding about Taiwanese culture and national development as well as to promote academic exchange and cooperation between Brunei and Taiwan.
The scholarship will be awarded to one Brunei student in 2006 with any one of the following: Undergraduate Scholarship of B$1,300 per month for pursuing undergraduate studies with a maximum period of four years or Master’s Scholarship of B$1,600 per month for pursuing master’s degree with a maximum period of two years or PhD Scholarship of B$1,600 per month for pursuing PhD degree with a maximum period of three years at any one of the universities/colleges in Taiwan.
The maximum number of years for foreign students to receive scholarships (including LEP) will be five years, under the supervision of the universities or colleges, and stipends will be awarded monthly based on the student’s attendance records and academic performance.
Tuition, food and accommodation, insurance and miscellaneous fees are all included in the scholarships. If the applicant possesses good command of English, he or she may apply for admission to the degree programme directly or attend Language Enrichment Programmes (LEP) at one of the university-affiliated Chinese Language Centres in Taiwan up to one year to improve his or her language proficiency before beginning the degree programme. A stipend of B$1,300 per month will be provided by the Ministry of Education.
In principle, scholarships will begin from August 1 each year and continue until July 31 of the following year. A scholarship recipient who is approved for summer programme or LEP may be assigned different scholarship award dates.
Scholarships will begin from the month of student enrolment and terminate when the scholarship period ends, or when the recipient graduates, drops out, is expelled, or upon cancellation of the scholarship, whichever comes first.
The application must meet the following requirements - good academic record and moral character, be of Brunei nationality, neither be Overseas Chinese Student and does not receive any other scholarship from other agencies or institutions.
Interested parties can collect their application forms from the Taipei Economic & Cultural Representative Office at No. 45, Simpang 100, Jalan Tungku Link Gadong. Application period is from February 1 through the end of March.
