Post-Katrina Scholarships to XU Students
February 20, 2006 - Posted in Education News, ScholarshipBack in December of last year, Xavier University received an early Christmas present in the form of a $250,000 check from philanthropist Sidney Frank, chairman and CEO of Sidney Frank Importing Co. Inc. The stipulation was that the funds be used for scholarships to deserving students.
“There was an overwhelming response from students regarding these scholarships,” said Dr. Elizabeth Barron, vice president for academic affairs.
The following is a list of the 85 recipients, known as Sidney Frank Scholars, who have received either $5,000 or $2,000 scholarships:
Business - Ashley Davidson, J’Avanti Gutter, Ashley Johnson, Joshua Miles and Terrell Washington.
Biology - Krystal Arceneaux, Erik Davis, Nicole Guillory, Muhummad Khan, Janae Llopis, Yousef Nazima, Eric Newton, Chandra Riley, LeBrei Simmons, Charles Smith, Ashley Tillison and Shardee Wise.
Chemistry - Rodney Clark, Kia Jones and Gerald Pannell.
Education - Giayana Dorsey.
Mass Communications - Jerrell Cameron.

Mr. Franks has provided a total $5-million in support of his alma mater, Brown University’s efforts to help students and faculty at colleges and universities that have been damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
