The auxiliary volunteers at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville awarded six students with scholarships to attend the University of Texas at Brownsville and pursue a degree in the health care profession.

There were honored during a reception at the hospital on Tuesday.

Alma de los Santos is one of the recipients. The pre-med major spends her free time with the volunteers and says she is proud to know they will play a part in her education.

“I’m very happy for receiving this scholarship. It’s going to be a lot of help for my education. I’m very grateful,” said Alma.

The scholarship committee has awarded more than $15,000 in scholarships to local students in the last year.
