Middlesex Credit Union Offers $7,000 in Scholarships

Middlesex Credit Union is pleased to be offering its scholarship program again this year, making it the eighth year that the credit union is rewarding academic achievement among its members. This year, Middlesex Credit Union is offering four $1,500 scholarships and one $1,000 scholarship to graduating high school seniors who are also credit union members. Students who will be continuing their education in the fall are encouraged to apply.

In addition to two general scholarships, Middlesex Credit Union is offering the Barbara Calhoun Memorial Scholarship to a student who may not be at the top of the class but shows a commitment to school and community. This scholarship was established in 1998 after the passing of long-time credit union employee, Barbara Calhoun. The William P. McKenna Scholarship was established in 1999 in honor of past chairman of the credit union Board of Directors. This scholarship is awarded to a student who is currently involved with education, or who plans to pursue a career in the field of education.

Scholarship applications are available at all Middlesex Credit Union offices. Interested students may also apply on-line at www.middlesexcu.org. Students who apply for the scholarship must have accounts with Middlesex Credit Union. Any student who attends school in the following towns: Meriden, Wallingford, Cheshire, North Haven, East Haven, Branford, North Branford, Guilford, Madison and all of Middlesex County is eligible for credit union membership and is encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity. The deadline for submitting application is Friday, May 5, 2006.

Middlesex Credit Union has been providing a financial alternative to Middlesex County for over 70 years. Any individual who lives in, works, worships, attends school or volunteers in the following towns: Meriden, Wallingford, Cheshire, North Haven, East Haven, Branford, North Branford, Guilford, Madison and all of Middlesex County is eligible to join Middlesex Credit Union. The credit union is a full-service financial facility with offices in Middletown, Meriden and Old Saybrook. The National Credit Union Administration federally insures all deposits up to $100,000.
