Dorrance Scholarship is seeking 20 students to award scholarships
February 28th, 2006 - Posted in Education, ScholarshipThe Dorrance Scholarship is seeking 20 students to award scholarships worth up to $36,000 per student.
The student must be an Arizona high school senior and the first in his or her family to attend college, although students are still eligible if their parents had some college but didn’t complete their degree.
The scholarships are for students who will attend Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University or University of Arizona and demonstrate academic achievement, financial need and strong leadership qualities.
There are 52 students currently in the program.
All applications must be received at the Arizona Community Foundation in Phoenix no later than Wednesday. Eligible students must meet all of the following criteria:
• Be a senior in good standing who will graduate from an accredited Arizona high school.
• First generation to attend college (neither parent holds a four- year degree).
• Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA (weighted or unweighted).
• Combined SAT score of 1040 or composite ACT score of 22 (excluding writing score).
• Demonstrate financial need.
• Accepted by one of Arizona’s three state universities.
• Demonstrate leadership and community service.
Requirements of a Dorrance Scholar:
• Live on campus freshman year.
• Attend monthly meetings with fellow scholars.
• Perform community service.
• Attend and complete a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester.
• Maintain a 3.0 GPA.
• Attend the Dorrance Annual Retreat.
