Scholarships available for hospitality students
February 28, 2006 - Posted in ScholarshipIn Antigua, the tourism industry provides for 90 per cent of all jobs, direct and indirect. This is according to the 2004 study on the impact of travel and tourism on jobs and the economy in the Caribbean.
To assist Caribbean nationals to enter and succeed in this significant industry, the Caribbean Hotel Foundation (CHF) offers scholarships to individuals who wish to pursue studies and to improve their skills.
Interested candidates must fill out the application form, available on www.caribbeanhotelfoundation.org, and submit it by 15 March, 2006.
Maurine Bowers, employed at the Carlisle Bay Hotel, was one of the lucky seven Antiguans who earned a CHF scholarship in 2005. The intensive seven-week baking and pastry course that she completed at the renowned Culinary Institute of America (CIA) placed her one step closer to reaching her goal of becoming a pastry chef.
