Taipei(CNA) - Thanks to encouragement and incentives offered by the government, a record number of Taiwan students went abroad for advanced study last year, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said Thursday.

Quoting visa issuance statistics released by foreign representative offices in Taiwan, MOE officials said a total of 33,734 university graduates went to 21 countries around the world to pursue master’s or doctoral degrees in 2005, a new record in history.
