New Online College Targets Entrepreneurs

March 6, 2006 - Posted in Education News, Online Education

Author, lecturer and business guru Brian Tracy has joined with Andrew Jackson University to provide online courses and degree programs that emphasize entrepreneurial principles. In a joint statement, Tracy and university chief executive Joseph Schmoke announced the launch of the Brian Tracy College of Business and Entrepreneurship at Andrew Jackson University. The college’s mission is to deliver practical knowledge online in an academic format to adults who are interested in furthering their careers or building their businesses.

“We are not competing with Harvard, Stanford or Wharton - they serve their market in an exemplary manner - but we aim to bring time tested entrepreneurial ideas and business principles to the broad market using online delivery,” Schmoke stated.

Online education was viewed in its early stages as diploma-mill territory. But over the last decade successful schools like the University of Phoenix have legitimized online education, and many traditional colleges have seen their online enrollment explode. Peter Drucker, a life-long academic, predicted, “Thirty years from now big universities will be relics. It (online education) is as large a change as when we first got the printed book. Colleges won’t survive as residential institutions. Today’s buildings are hopelessly unsuited and totally unneeded.”

Online colleges recently received a boost from Congress when a budget bill withdrew the requirement that colleges must deliver more than half their courses on a campus to qualify for federal student aid. In view of this, it looks like Drucker’s prediction may be uncannily accurate.
