The Community Foundation of Mount Vernon and Knox County Scholarship
March 23, 2006 - Posted in ScholarshipThe Community Foundation of Mount Vernon and Knox County is accepting applications for scholarships.
The Lillian C. Hickman Medical Scholarship Awards are made on a competitive basis to current or former Knox County residents who will be enrolled in a premedical or medical program during the 2006-07 academic year. Preference is given to applicants who intend to pursue family practice. Applications will be screened by a select committee of the foundation and will include members of the area medical community.
The Wilbur F. Gaunder Engineering Scholarship will be awarded annually to one Knox County student, of sophomore standing or later, enrolled at any four-year engineering college. Award is renewable as long as student remains in an undergraduate engineering school and maintains satisfactory grades. A new scholarship recipient is recommended to the foundation board each year on a competitive basis by a special review committee which includes area engineers.
Applications may be obtained by logging on to the foundation’s Web site at www.mvkcfoundation.org. Choose Grant Seekers and then choose 2006 Special Scholarships Application (PDF). The deadline to return completed applications for the aforementioned scholarships is April 3 with awards to be announced by June 19.
No applications will be accepted after this date.
Scholarships are also being offered to nontraditional, postsecondary students residing in Knox County. Traditionally, scholarships offered under this foundation program are provided to adults pursuing new career opportunities in nursing or allied medical fields. However, the grants, which are based on merit and financial need, may also be awarded to adults seeking postsecondary training a for any new career.
The scholarships are provided by the foundation through the Alexandra Letz and the J.R. and Lorene Purdy Scholarship Funds.
An application may be obtained on the Foundation’s Web site, Grant Seekers, 2006 Special Scholarships Application (PDF). The deadline to return these applications is Thursday, June 1, 2006, with awards to be announced by Aug. 14, 2006.
