Goldsmith Foundation pledges $500,000 to endowment support for Connecticut College scholarship fund

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Connecticut College has received a pledge of an additional $500,000 from The Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation to provide scholarship support to students who demonstrate leadership skills and contribute to the college´s cultural diversity.

The pledge will bring the amount of the Virginia B. Slaughter ´48 Scholarship Fund to more than $1 million.

Virginia Slaughter, of New York, is a 1948 graduate of Connecticut College and has served on the Board of Trustees since 1997. She is also co-chair of the board´s Committee on Student Life.

“The consistent and generous support of Ginny Slaughter and The Goldsmith Foundation has been critical to the college attracting the best and brightest students, regardless of the students´ financial ability,” said Gregory Waldron, vice president of College Advancement.

Ranked among the most selective private liberal arts colleges in the nation, Connecticut College enrolls 1,900 men and women from 42 states and 41 countries. The college is known for putting the liberal arts into action through interdisciplinary studies, international programs, funded internships, student-faculty research and service learning. Founded in 1911, the college operates under an 84-year-old honor code. The college is located at 270 Mohegan Ave, New London, about two hours by car from Boston and New York.
