The South Shore Art Center has announced its 2006 Art Scholarship Competition for South Shore seniors attending public, private, or parochial schools who will graduate in 2006 and have been accepted by a school of fine arts or an accredited institution of higher learning with a fine arts curriculum. Four scholarships will be presented, ranging in value from $300 to $1,000. The purpose of the awards is to encourage local students to further their art education. Portfolios and applications may be submitted to the Art Center on April 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; April 23 from noon to 4 p.m.; April 24, 25, and 26, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

A panel of artists and educators will review the portfolios and applicants will be notified promptly. Award money will be paid directly to the winners’ schools to be applied toward tuition costs. Awards will be presented at an awards ceremony during the 51st South Shore Art Center Arts Festival on Cohasset Common, June 16.
