For the first time, Soroptimists International of Vallejo is extending its annual high school scholarships to women enrolled or planning to attend Solano Community College students, and women enrolled or planning to attend Touro University and California Maritime Academy.

Three, $4,000 college scholarships for the 2006-2007 term are available for women and girls through Soroptimist International of Vallejo.

The scholarships are open to Vallejo high school students who plan to attend a four-year college or university, and women - who do not need to be Vallejo residents — attending or planning to attend Touro University or California Maritime Academy.

There is also a $1,000 scholarship for a Vallejo woman or girl attending or planning to attend Solano Community College for the 2006-2007 term.

Applicants are evaluated on financial need, academic/community achievement and personal goals.

Two letters or recommendation and grade transcripts are required along with the application form.

Applications are available at Vallejo public and private high schools, at SCC’s financial aid office, or at Touro and Cal Maritime’s financial aid offices. They are also available by contacting Soroptimist Colleen Truelsen at 643-6209, e-mail: the truelsens@comcast.net.
