First Charter creates Davidson scholarship

First Charter Corp. has established a scholarship at Davidson College in honor of Lawrence Kimbrough, the company’s former president and chief executive.

Kimbrough, who retired from First Charter on Jan. 31, is a Davidson alumnus and a trustee of the college.

First Charter declines to disclose the amount of the scholarship.

The Lawrence M. Kimbrough Scholarship will provide support for Davidson students with financial need who have demonstrated leadership talent and potential.

In addition, preference will be given to candidates who are children of First Charter employees.

“Our board of directors wanted to honor Lawrence for his years of outstanding leadership and personal commitment to First Charter,” says Bob James, president and CEO of First Charter. “His long association with Davidson College made it the perfect choice for this honor.”

Charlotte-based First Charter operates 58 branches, as well as four insurance offices and 139 ATMs in North Carolina.

With assets of $4.2 billion, the company (NASDAQ:FCTR ) also has loan-origination offices in Asheville and Reston, Va.
