Assistance League of Flintridge, a chapter of National Assistance League, administers the scholarship fund established in 1995 by family and friends of Mary Ellen Hillgren, past president of Assistance League of Flintridge and past president of National Assistance League.

She strongly believed in public education and wished to encourage individual students whenever possible.

La Cañada High School graduating seniors who reside in La Cañada Flintridge are encouraged to apply for one of two $1,000 scholarships to help meet the costs of attending a four-year college or university in the fall. The two scholarships are awarded on merit based on excellence in academics, character, extracurricular school activities, community service or athletics. The applicants are required to submit with the application an essay setting forth the benefits that he or she receives from involvement in extracurricular school activities or community service.

Applications are now available at the counseling office at LCHS. Applications must be returned to the LCHS counseling office no later than May 13. The scholarships will be presented at the Senior Awards Ceremony at LCHS.

For additional information, please contact LCHS counselor Sally Spangler at the school.
