Suntory Launches Scholarship Program in Shanghai
April 20, 2006 - Posted in ScholarshipSuntory Ltd. said Tuesday the Japanese beverage company has launched a scholarship program for excellent students at Fudan University and three other universities in Shanghai.
Under the program worth 3.84 million yuan, or 56.5 million yen, for the Shanghai Municipal Education Development Fund, 40 scholarship recipients will be selected annually over four years for a total of 160 students. Each recipient will be given 800 yuan a month.
Suntory plans to focus its Chinese business operation on Shanghai and its vicinity, already commanding 54 percent of Shanghai’s beer market in 2005.
Its sales in the market in the year grew 11 percent from the previous year to 25 billion yen, the company said.
