Scholarships for lucky 12 (Malaysia)
NOT only are they all given scholarships to pursue their courses, they will be given work placement with multinationals upon completion of their programme.
This is what the Taylor’s World Class Scholarships is awarding to 12 students who have outstanding academic results and displayed exceptional leadership qualities.
The scholarships, valued at over RM1mil, are jointly presented with Air France-KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Campbell’s, DHL, Nestle Food Services and Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur.
Six Taylor’s Business School students will pursue their degrees while six Taylor’s College School of Hospitality and Tourism students will pursue diplomas and higher diplomas.
“The workforce has become increasingly competitive and graduates need to be up to date to fit seamlessly into the mould of their chosen profession.
“It is these reasons that led to our initiative to approach world class corporations to partner us in this pilot project – to raise the bar and set the benchmark for world class graduates who excel,†said Taylor’s Education Group managing director Datuk Loy Teik Ngan.
The scholarship will require students to take part in on-going industrial training while the Business students have an additional 18-month management trainee programme to enrol in upon graduation.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed was present at the launch.
“It is my business to nurture good universities and to produce world class students who are globally competitive,†said Mustapa.
He added that the scholarship plan was in keeping with the Government’s emphasis to produce graduates with academic excellence and work-ready skills.
Taylor’s Business School saw five recipients partnered with DHL – Ng Mei Lyn, Leong Soo Qi, Lau Suek Yee, Timothy Low Li Wen and Jennifer Teh Ying Ying.
Michelle Yong Wai Cheng was partnered with Campbell.
Taylor’s College School of Hospitality and Tourism saw four students partnered with Shangri-La – Hong Ee Fen, Ivy Chew Ling Ying, Loke Jia Foong and Ng Shen Ni.
Lee Ker Hui was partnered with Air France-KLM and Kin Chiu Yi was partnered with Nestle Food Services.
“My ambition is to become an accountant and I am very thankful for this opportunity to pursue my dreams,†said Mei Lyn.
The recipients were chosen from 1,200 applicants after a rigorous selection process.
