Career Education Gets Brooks Legal Win
May 16, 2006 - Posted in Education NewsFor-profit education provider Career Education Corp. said Tuesday that the California Department of Consumer Affairs has invalidated a notice of conditional approval to operate issued by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education against Career Education’s Brooks Institute of Photography.
The development means the Bureau must review Brooks’ license renewal application, conduct a qualitative review and assessment of the school. Brooks’ current approval to operate was extended, too.
In March, an administrative law judge ruled that the Bureau improperly issued the notice, and declared the notice invalid. The judge’s decision, however, was subject to a determination by the Department of Consumer Affairs.
The Brooks Institute of Photography educates students in visual media and has over 2,200 students. Its California campuses are in Santa Barbara and Ventura.
“We are pleased that our position has been vindicated in this matter,” said Janice L. Block, chief legal officer for Career Education.
