May 26, 2006 - Posted in ScholarshipThe Central DuPage Hospital Auxiliary announces that it has awarded fourteen scholarships for the 2006-2007 academic year. All recipients are currently enrolled, or will be in the Fall, in college or graduate programs that will lead to a career in some area of healthcare. The winners are: Jennafer Bedard, Jason Carroll, Angelo Dunlao, Emily Heslinga, Esther Kim, Jennifer Li, Loretta Li, Marissa Mahoney, Jennifer Nykiel, Stacey Pacana, Robert Rozanski, Meghan Schmidt, Ian Slack and Theresa Wenzel.
Scholarship nominations opened in February of 2006 and closed on March 31, 2006. Each candidate filled out an application which included a personal statement, a listing of extra-curricular activities, two written recommendations and school transcripts. The applications were reviewed individually by a selection committee of five to seven Auxiliary members who scored each portion of every application. Then, the committee met as a group to discuss final evaluations.
According to Mary Ann Ricketts, the Auxiliary Scholarship Co-Chair, “It is not always the students with the highest class ranking that are chosen. We award scholarships to those we feel have the potential to go far in their chosen profession and who are likely to practice in the area around Central DuPage Hospital.”
The Central DuPage Hospital Auxiliary is celebrating its 42nd year of supporting the activities of the hospital and fostering the efforts of the hospital within the community. This marks the 40th year that it has awarded scholarships. The Auxiliary currently has over 250 active members.
Since the Auxiliary began awarding scholarships in 1967, over $1.1 million dollars have been given out to support students pursuing careers in healthcare related fields.
