The Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority presented a $1 million check for scholarships at Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association member schools Thursday to Johnson C. Smith University President Dorothy Yancy.

The authority led the fund-raising efforts on behalf of the city and received contributions from the state of North Carolina, city of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, Bank of America Corp., Wachovia Corp., and Duke Energy Corp., among others
