CBHS seniors receive over $35,000 in CBEFAA-administered scholarships.
May 28, 2006 - Posted in ScholarshipThe Cut Bank Education Foundation and Alumni Association had plenty to celebrate at its fourth annual Celebrating Success Scholarship Recognition Reception on Sunday, May 1. Thirty-six scholarships totaling over $35,000 were awarded to 31 members of the CBHS Class of 2006, reported Kimberley Butterworth, Executive Director of the CBEFAA.
Butterworth pointed out the Celebrating Success event is an opportunity to recognize and reward CBHS seniors for the “good job†they did during their high school career.
“We’ve had nothing but positive feedback on our Celebrating Success program and the opportunity it gives us to recognize not only these outstanding graduates, but also our fantastic faculty and the generous supporters of the CBEFAA,†added Butterworth.
Each year the scholarship recipients are asked to write a short essay on the teacher who had the greatest impact on them during their years in the Cut Bank Schools. The teachers were presented with a gift of appreciation, courtesy of the CBEFAA, and also had their photos taken.
Three special awards were also presented at the banquet. Martha “Marky†Jones, a longtime local resident and retired teacher who taught business classes in the Cut Bank Schools, was presented the CBEFAA’s “Shining Star†award.
“We started this program a few years ago to allow people to honor special teachers and make a donation to the foundation,†explained Butterworth. “Over the past year, we have received many donations in honor of Marky and members of the foundation wanted to publicly recognize her at Sunday’s reception,†said Butterworth.
Cut Bank alumni Scott Gage and Larry Epstein were also recognized for their “outstanding contribution to the CBEFAA. “Larry and Scott were key players in establishing and growing the CBEFAA’s endowment fund, ‘Legacy of Learning,’ and we wanted to present them with a special award,†explained Butterworth. Both were given an engraved award which read, “You Went the Distance for Our Children.â€
