Lincolnite opts to study abroad
May 28, 2006 - Posted in Study Abroad Alicia Dessain of Lincoln participated in the Bates College Junior Semester Abroad program.
Dessain, a psychology major, studied in Cape Town, South Africa, through the Council on International Educational Exchange.
Students at Bates have the option of taking a semester or full year in a foreign country. Both programs provide them opportunities to study and conduct research at their choice of hundreds of colleges and universities throughout the world.
According to Associate Dean of Students Stephen Sawyer, the program director, the experience serves to enhance students’ college careers by offering opportunities to live in other cultures and speak other languages.
Some students at Bates enroll independently at the foreign university of their choice, while others choose foreign-study programs through other accredited American colleges.
A dean’s list student, Dessain is a Dana Scholar at Bates, recognized for academic excellence and promise, leadership potential, and service to the college. She studied abroad with the Bates fall semester program in Japan in fall 2004. The daughter of Eric and Tatiana Dessain, she is a 2003 graduate of Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School.
