Australia offers scholarships to Arab students
June 3, 2006 - Posted in ScholarshipAustralia has announced a scholarship programme for students from Arab and other Middle Eastern countries who wish to take tourism and hospitality management courses.
Australia’s International Centre for Excellence will provide scholarships for studies in five leading universities in the country.
Gai Kennedy, economic advisor and official in charge of cultural affairs at the Australian embassy in Riyadh, said that those who want to apply for these scholarships should contact the Australian embassy in their respective countries before July 29.
Applicants may choose from one of the five international universities Murdoch University, University of Canberra, Victoria University of Melbourne, Charles Darwin University and Griffith University.
“These are among the top 200 universities in the world, and three of them among the top 50,” he said.
According to the official, the number of foreign students enrolled in universities in Australia reached 270,000 in 2004. About 73,000 of these students, who come from 200 countries, joined the overseas departments of the universities.
Referring to the dress code for female Muslim students at the universities, the embassy official said that they will not be prevented from following it.
