June 5, 2006 - Posted in Scholarship

In 2001, the George Washington Carver Class of 1951 celebrated a half of a century since their graduation from high school, and the highlight of the special occasion was the presentation of a $3,751 scholarship honoring memories of their parents. Ambre Ann Wesley, a 1991 Navasota High graduate and a December 2005 graduate of Prairie View A&M University, was the recipient of this memorial scholarship.

For 2006, the fifty-fifth high school reunion, the goal is to once more help a deserving student become a productive citizen by providing financial assistance. A scholarship of $2,575 will be presented to a deserving student of Navasota High School.

Gratitude is extended out to the following class members for making donations in memory of deceased loved ones: Winnie Ross Allen in memory of Calvin and Roberta Ross and Calvin A. Ross; Daisy Holiday Shead in memory of Johnny Sr. and Georgia Holiday; Evans Mason in memory of Mrs. Willie Mae Mitchell; Izora Green in memory Alene Simmons Green; Billie Moore Bailey in memory of Mrs. Nellie B. Ford and Della Mae Moore Franklin; Dorothy Wesley Sargent in memory of Joseph and Rosa Wesley and Joseph Wesley, Jr., and Robert James Winston in memory of his parents.

Special recognition is given to those donating $500 or more to the scholarship fund: Joyce Frazier Cunningham in memory of Edna Lane Butler and Earl Frazier; Mary Leana Riley Smith and Dave Henry Riley in memory of Sammy and Berthina Riley. Honorable mention to Dr. Peggy, Mrs. Beatrice Engram, Dr. James Race and Mrs. Elsie Race, friends of Joyce Cunningham, for their special contributions to the scholarship fund. Without their help, the $2,575 would not be possible. Many thanks goes out to all those that donated.
