Capital hotel worker books scholarship to study abroad
June 23, 2006 - Posted in Scholarship, Study AbroadA RISING star at a top Edinburgh hotel has won a prestigious scholarship to master the management trade in Switzerland.
James O’Donnell of the Balmoral Hotel will travel to the Swiss Hotel Management School, recognised as a world-class hospitality business school.
The 24-year-old will learn new leadership techniques from management maestros as part of the prize.
Mr O’Donnell, is considered by the Balmoral as its “number one star” and has a glowing track record within the industry.
He became assistant manager at the Balmoral’s Michelin-starred Number One restaurant after quickly rising through the ranks at the hotel.
The Napier University graduate was awarded the scholarship after excelling in a series of gruelling interviews and rigorous assessments.
He said: “I am delighted to be attending the Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne, as it has such a famous reputation.”
The Balmoral said it actively encourages its employees to enter scholarships in a bid to build on the hotel’s reputation as a centre of excellence.
