Australian Development Scholarships for the Sri Lankan Public Sector
June 25, 2006 - Posted in Education News, Scholarship, Study AbroadThe Australian High Commissioner, Dr Greg French, announced that Australia would provide six masters-level scholarships targeted at the public sector in Sri Lanka for the 2007 academic intake.
‘I am pleased to announce that Australia will continue to support education in Sri Lanka through the newly announced Australia Scholarship program’, the High Commissioner stated other day.
‘In addition to the 23 scholarship holders already in Australia under the Australia Development Scholarship scheme, six scholarships for post-graduate study will be awarded on a competitive basis for public sector employees working in areas such as public finance and environmental management.
“These scholarships demonstrate our commitment to assisting the development of the public sector and offer a unique opportunity to live, learn and study in Australia.â€
“Many former scholars of this program are making important contributions to the development of Sri Lankaâ€, the High Commissioner said.
The Australian Development Scholarships are part of the recently announced Australian Scholarship program. They are provided annually on a competitive basis to individuals in the public sector with excellent educational qualifications. Potential awardees are assessed on whether the course of study will contribute to long-term development of Sri Lanka. Priority areas include good governance (including public administration), environmental studies, natural resources management, and gender and development.
Full course costs, a living allowance, travel to and from Australia and other ancillary expenses will be provided by the Australian Government. The Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) manages this program in partnership with the Government of Sri Lanka.
Expressions of interest must be submitted through the applicant’s Ministry to the Department of External Resources, Ministry of Finance and Planning. Scholarship details can be obtained from Secretaries of relevant Ministries. Closing date for the receipt of completed application forms at the Department of External Resources is 23 July 2006.
