Scholarships for bumi students (Malaysia)

TAYLOR’S College Petaling Jaya in partnership with three Malaysian corporations is offering scholarships worth RM2mil to bumiputra students.

The inaugural Biasiswa Perdana Kolej Taylor’s was launched recently with the help of Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad, Berita Harian Sdn Bhd and Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The scholarships comprise three tiers with full and partial scholarships. The first tier offers 10 full scholarships, each coupled with internship at one of the three corporate partners. It will be awarded to the top 10 successful bumiputra applicants.

Taylor’s College Malaysia president Ooi Chee Kok said the scholarships were important as it provided financial assistance with internship experience.

“Through the scholarship scheme, we aim to create awareness among bumiputra students that Taylor’s College is sensitive to their educational needs,” Ooi said.

The second tier offers 50% bursary to the next top 10 applicants. Another 40% bursary will be awarded to the subsequent 50 applicants.

Bank Kerjasama Rakyat is also offering the Al-Falah Education Financing, a special education scheme for eligible bumiputra recipients from Tier 2 and 3.

The scholarships are open to bumiputra students for the July intake. Applicants will be judged on their results in SPM, STPM or other pre-university courses.

They will also be assessed according to their family’s financial standing and their involvement in extra-curricular activities. Applicants need a good attitude, leadership qualities and communication skills.

For the first tier, the students will receive internship training with the partner organisation during their course of study. Upon graduation, they may also receive a minimum of one-year management trainee experience and job offers.

Applicants can forward their entries via the forms available on Taylor’s College website. Deadline for submission of applications is by June 27.
