Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences has announced that the first-ever William G. Waldron Scholarship has been awarded to Kimberly Johnson of Mexico, Maine. This is the first year that the scholarship has been awarded.
Johnson, who in August will enter her sixth and final year in the College’s Doctor of Pharmacy program, graduated from Mount Valley High School in 2000. She is the daughter of Donald and Diane Johnson of Mexico, Maine.
Joseph Bruno, Chief Executive Officer of Augusta-based Community Pharmacies, which has eight locations throughout Maine, said that Johnson was the perfect choice for the first Waldron Scholarship because of her superior academic record and her approach toward patient counseling.
“Right away, I was very impressed with her knowledge, compassion and the way she approaches patient care,” Bruno said. “Her qualities lend themselves very well to working in the community pharmacy setting, especially in Maine, and we look forward to having her join Community Pharmacies.”
The scholarship, named in honor of William Waldron, founder of Community Pharmacies, is awarded to a deserving sixth-year student who has demonstrated strong interest in the practice of community pharmacy, and who plans on working in Maine upon graduation. The award, which pays for the full tuition of a graduating senior, was conceived and developed by Mr. Bruno.
