Bayshore Credit Union awards $2,500 scholarship
June 29, 2006 - Posted in Education News, ScholarshipSupriya Singh will head off to Queen’s University this fall with some help from Bayshore Credit Union. Supriya, who will be graduating from Bayside Secondary School, has been declared this year’s winner of the Bayshore Credit Union Scholarship Contest. Singh competed with other graduating students for the $2,500 scholarship. It is awarded based on the results of an essay competition.
Bayshore began offering the scholarship seven years ago. Each year, graduating students who are attending postsecondary education are invited to write a 1,000-word essay on the topic of “The Role of Co-operatives in Our Community.â€
“When I began this project, I knew nothing about co-operatives, but I really learned a lot. I’m shocked that I won,†said Singh.
At Queen’s, Supriya will study Life Sciences with a view to becoming a doctor.
With the awarding of this year’s scholarship, Bayshore has awarded over $18,000 since the program began.
Joe Bell, Bayshore’s CEO stated, “With the rising cost of a university education, we looked for ways that we could help. Hopefully, this award helps some area young people reach their goals.â€
