FOLLOWING on from the success of the Seafish Scholarship programme during 2005/2006, Seafish has announced the continuation of their scholarship programme. The scholarships were launched as part of Seafish’s commitment to supporting staff training and development in the seafood industry, key to raising industry standards and improving business effectiveness. Each successful applicant will need to be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to working in the seafood industry and a desire to succeed. A funded programme of training, up to £1,000, will be agreed for each successful applicant. “A Seafish Scholarship allows enthusiastic individuals who want to progress in the seafood industry to develop their skills and knowledge” explains Richard Wardell, Seafish Training Adviser.Marta Woloncewicz from The Real Food Café in Perthshire was a scholar who attended a three-day training programme at the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) Training School in Leeds earlier on this year. She said “The course was excellent with the topics on preparing fish, oil maintenance and portion control proving very beneficial.” Seafish is seeking applications from people who want to develop themselves in the catching, processing, retailing or fish frying sector of the seafood industry.
