USA. Yamaha Marine awards scholarships for academic excellence
June 30th, 2006 - Posted in ScholarshipYamaha Marine Group has awarded four $3,000 scholarships to outstanding students of Yamaha Outboard dealers and their employees as part of the company’s 2006 Dealership Scholarship Program. The recipients are as follows: Brandon James Anderson of Mandan, N.D.; Bradley W. Hines of Newport News, Va.; Jenna Potts of Ventura, Calif.; and Chelsea Vandemark of Tavernier, Fla.
“Preparing our youth for the future is important to us here at Yamaha,†said Phil Dyskow, president of Yamaha Marine Group. “We feel that by funding a Dealership Scholarship Program, we can provide some relief for our dealers and their employees with the growing cost of higher education.â€
The Yamaha Dealership Scholarship Program, now in its 22nd year, rewards students for excellence in academics, community involvement, leadership and writing/communication skills. A committee of educators screens all applications.
Yamaha awards scholarships to children or grandchildren of Yamaha Marine dealers, children of dealership employees who have been with the dealership for at least two years and dealership employees who are under 21. Students must be enrolled or plan to enroll in school full time to be considered for a scholarship.
Anderson is the son of Doug Anderson, a parts specialist with Vallely Sport and Marine in Bismarck, N.D. Anderson would like to study auto mechanics at the NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville, N.C.
Hines is the son of Doug Hines, manager of Ed’s Marine Superstore in Ashland, Va. Hines attends James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., where he is studying political science and pre-law.
Potts is the daughter of the late Don Potts and Mary Ann Potts, owners of Inflatable Boat Specialists, LLC, in Ventura, Calif. Potts is studying psychology and business at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.
Vandemark is the daughter of Mike and Myers, managing member of Sandy Cove Marine Sales in Islamorada, Fla. Vandemark plans to study nursing at the University of Central Florida, Orlando.
