Acordia, Inc., America’s largest bank-affiliated insurance brokerage and a subsidiary of Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE:WFC), has announced the recipients of the eighth annual Acordia Scholarship Program — designed for the dependants of Acordia team members who best exemplify the academic, community service and leadership qualities the organization admires and wishes to foster.

The winners of the 2006 Acordia Scholarship Program who have been awarded a four-year scholarship are:

– Melissa Culver of Charleston, West Virginia
– Hilary Gerten of Bloomington, Minnesota
– Evan Hayes of Columbus, Ohio
– Amanda Kerrigan of Irvine, California
– Robert Corey Meade of Charleston, West Virginia
– Jessica Stover of Charleston, West Virginia
– Elise Woznicki of Southfield, Michigan

The Acordia Scholarship Program, established in 1999, encourages and helps fund the costs of higher education for the children of Acordia team members, particularly those who, without aid, would probably be unable to attend college.

“We are very pleased to be able to help make higher education more affordable for team members’ children in times when college tuition costs continue to rise,” said Pete Wissinger, President and Chief Executive Officer of Acordia, Inc. “I hope these scholarships will allow the students the opportunity to fulfill their educational goals and become the individuals they aspire to be. After all, education is an important key to success in life.”

To be eligible for The Acordia Scholarship Program, applicants were required to write an essay regarding the meaning of education in his or her life, provide high school transcripts, letters of recommendation and financial aid documentation.

The selection committee awards scholarships to entering freshman who best exemplify the academic, community service and leadership potential to become outstanding students. Judging criteria include financial assistance, scholastic achievement, extracurricular and community activities, demonstrated leadership, work experience and written communication skills.

“We received many outstanding applications for the Acordia Scholarship Program and are pleased to announce the recipients whose academic excellence, community involvement and leadership skills earned them the Acordia scholarship,” said Deborah Broderick, Vice President, Acordia, Inc.

Each of the four-year college scholarships provides students with up to $5,000 per year with a maximum amount of $20,000 over four years. The funds can be used for tuition, room and board, and related expenses and are paid directly to each student’s chosen college or university each semester. Students must maintain a 2.5/4.0 grade point average and demonstrate continuing good citizenship to qualify for years two, three and four.
