Dade Behring Announces Extension of Global Scholarship Program: the U.S. Legacy Scholarship
August 9, 2006 - Posted in Education News, ScholarshipDade Behring Inc., the world’s largest company solely dedicated to clinical diagnostics, today announced that they are expanding their current $1,250,000 scholarship program to include the new U.S. Legacy Scholarship. The U.S. Legacy Scholarship recognizes the clinical laboratory profession by funding laboratory science education for the children, grandchildren and siblings of clinical laboratory professionals.
Through the new scholarship program, Dade Behring will award five scholarships of $5,000 each to students enrolled in accredited Medical Laboratory Technologist and Medical Laboratory Technician programs. Dade Behring will partner with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as its administering partner for this program.
“We know that clinical laboratory professionals contribute a critical component to the quality of patient care,” said Jim Reid-Anderson, Chairman, President and CEO, Dade Behring. “By offering this new scholarship program, we’re not only recognizing the heritage of this valuable profession, but also helping to strengthen the quality of health care for countless patients.”
In 2002, Dade Behring established a scholarship program to address one of the most challenging problems faced by clinical laboratories today–a shortage of skilled technologists and technicians. The company intends to contribute more than $1,250,000 towards scholarships for students seeking degrees in the laboratory sciences.
“Clinical laboratory professionals are behind-the-scenes providers of vital information and choose this field because they know they can make a difference in patient’s lives,” said Karen Brown, Chair of the scholarship committee for the American Society for Clinical Pathology and Professor, Department of Pathology, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah. “I believe that Dade Behring is making a significant contribution to the profession and is therefore helping to improve the quality of laboratory medicine and ultimately patient care.”
The Dade Behring Scholarship program is the first and only global scholarship program in the industry. By partnering with local organizations, Dade Behring customizes each country’s program to meet the unique needs of each region.
