Thoughts of on-campus residences, essays and mid-terms may still be years away, but for four young Canadians their post-secondary education got a significant boost today as USC Education
Savings Plan Inc. (USCI) announced the winners of its 2006 National RESPScholarship Contest.

The annual contest, now in its 15th year, provides families across Canadaa chance to win a Family Group Education Savings Plan valued at up to $10,000.The scholarship money is placed in an RESP (Registered Education Savings Plan) that can be accessed when the child is ready to begin post-secondary education.

“Our scholarship contest gives families a simple and free opportunity toget a head start on saving for their children’s post-secondary education -something they may not have otherwise started to think about,” said Michael Geraghty, President & CEO, USCI.

This year’s scholarship contest received over 100,000 nominations. Winners include Jaxson Beauvais, from Sarnia, ON; Aleyna Blackduck from, Yellowknife, NT; Christopher Joseph Gioia from Cambridge, ON; and Ethan Richelhoff from Saskatoon, SK.

“With two out of three jobs today requiring a post-secondary education and the increasing cost of tuition and other fees, we recognize the huge financial burden of planning and saving for post-secondary education”, said Geraghty. “An RESP is a sound investment that helps parents and their children manage the challenges of saving for these future costs.”

The USCI scholarship contest runs year-round. It is free to enter and open to all Canadian children eight years of age or under. Nominations for next year’s scholarship contest are now open and full contest details can be found at www.usc.ca

USC Education Savings Plans Inc. has been distributing RESPs for over 40 years. Total assets are almost $1.9 billion and over $1.1 billion million has been returned to parents and qualified students. The company has just over 500 licensed representatives and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the International Scholarship Foundation.
