Scholarship established in memory of Lois Dear
August 18, 2006 - Posted in Education News, ScholarshipA scholarship is being set up in memory of slain primary school teacher Lois Dear.
An anonymous donation of $5000 to Tokoroa’s Strathmore School will be used to establish the Lois Dear Scholarship to help a former Strathmore student who attended Tokoroa High School or Forest View High School with their tertiary education.
The first award of $1000 was expected to be announced this year, when final details of the new Lois Dear Trust were signed off.
Strathmore principal Murray Kendrick said the scholarship would remain as long as people “continued to make donations”.
“It’s something small to start them off,” he said.
“And it’s a way of making sure she’s still helping with the education of children.
“I think it’s excellent we can do something like that for her memory and for the children coming through the school.”
